After a pre-graduation period with WS Atkins, Paul completed a BEng in Electroacoustics at the University of Salford in 1990 and immediately joined the growing team at Arup Acoustics in London.  At Arup, ambitious and prestigious projects were the norm, which provided for an expansive experience of designing acoustics against high expectations, as well as a valuable exposure to excellent architecture and to driven and forward-thinking design teams.

While training at Arup Acoustics, Paul specialised in the design of acoustics and audio technologies for speech and media systems in Aviation, Education, Performing Arts, Rail, Retail and Sports & Leisure markets and applications.

Paul completed his training and was awarded Chartership (CEng) in May 1999.  In 2000,  Paul was made an Associate at Arup and in 2001 he completed a Masters degree at Cambridge University in Inter-disciplinary Design in the Built Environment, sponsored by the Arup Foundation.

Paul continued to represent Arup's business interests and engineering offering in speech intelligibility and audio reproduction until 2007, when he joined Richard Northwood at Consultancy On Media Systems to provide acoustic and speech intelligibility services  into COMS’ established expertise in system technologies.   In 2009, Paul spent time as an Associate Director of the re-established Acoustics team at Capita Symonds, working in various Capita offices on schools, performing arts and aviation projects.

As well as being Chartered CEng through the Institute of Acoustics (IOA) and the Engineering Council (EC), Paul is also a full member of the Audio Engineering Society, the Institute of Engineering and Technology and the Institute of Sound and Communication Engineers.  He is active in these groups, acting as Chairman of the IOA Electro Acoustics Group as well as Council Member at the IOA.

The IOA Electro Acoustics Group organises the well respected Reproduced Sound series of conferences, now in its 26th year.  Staged with the support of the AES, APRS, ISCE, ABTT Reproduced Sound 2010 will be hosted at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff on November 18th and 19th.  As a regular delegate and contributor to RS since 1992, Paul is looking forward to his first Reproduced Sound as Chairman with renewed excitement!
